Rain, rain, go away!

Hmm...it has been raining for two days already and it's really gloomy outside =(

My mama and papa are currently touring New York. Just talked to them last night and they were kinda upset that they got to move about in such in a weather. Lord, please bless them with good weather! The next two days in Philadelphia and Washington will be good though and I believe they will really like the sun and gentle breeze.

Pa and ma - don't forget your umbrella okie? Dan and I are eagerly waiting to take you around Boston and travel to New York together. WELCOME TO AMERICA!!!!!

MISS WAP! THANK YOU!

I had missed the postman so I've got to collect my parcel from the post office but the whole of New England, no in fact it is the whole of Eastern US, is currently under a rain spell. =( But I want my gift badly cos I have waited for weeks! So I braved the rain and walked to the Kenmore branch. My umbrella was almost blown off and I felt I had wings and I could fly any moment.

Check out my gift!

Specially ordered by Ms WAP from Singapore. =)

This is real cool because it is the world tour album so the content is much more interesting

The "Secret" Garden at Fenway

Post Dated Saturday, 19 April 2008

The weather was great this morning, so we decided to go for a stroll around our estate. Previously we didn't venture too far as the weather was always too cold to move around, but now that spring is really upon us, the timing is just perfect!

We actually headed to the park near our apartment as the flowers had started to bloom and it was beautiful. But when we ventured deeper into the park, we found that it was really more than that. Apparently the site is also a war memorial of sorts to remember the Bostonians who served in the military and died in service to the nation in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

The majestic pictures you see below are from the memorial for WWII.

Here are some shots of the memorials erected to commemorate the war dead for Korea and Vietnam...

The pictures below are taken from a Japanese temple bell that was presented to the officers from the visiting American vessel The USS Boston some hundreds of years ago. The bell symbolizes prosperity and friendship, and we were amazed by the Chinese characters inscribed onto its sides, so we decided to capture it...

The rest of the pictures are the scenic view of this garden at Fenway... plus a family photo of some of the natives of the land. They seem quite benign when it comes to a curious visitor trying to squeeze in some photo shots, but careful! Don't get too near or they will actually become aggressive and snap at you.

Yup... we call this our own little secret garden at Fenway... we hope you liked the tour!

Boston Marathon Part 2

The next day, we met up with Daniel's Emerson course mates at Collidge Corner for the marathon and lunch. It was an international meeting because we came from all over the world:

From right:
Ms Singapore, Ms Morocco, Ms Bulgaria, Ms Israel & Ms Greece watching an American marathon in an Indian restaurant

This was the first guy. Ahead of him was a lorry of reporters. When he passed by Collidge Corner, he was 1h 55 mins into the race.

Then we found out that he completed the race in 2h 7 mins & 46s !!!!! He is from Kenya and the lady besides him is first from the women category. She is from Ethiopia and she took 2h 25 mins & 25s !!

The crowd was real cool. They cheered and clapped for EVERY participants and for your information, there were 25 283 of them (runners)!

Boston Marathon Part 1

We didn't have the time to update our blog because we were out most of the time, exploring some parts of Boston and be part of the baseball and marathon madness.

We were out in Copley (aka Orchard Road of Singapore) the Sunday prior to  the 112th marathon. In case you are not aware, the Boston Marathon is a big big thing here. The finishing line is at Copley so the set up was real big and grand. It was extremely crowded that particular Sunday.

Boston Marathon always falls on Patriot's Day.
Baseball game will be arranged earlier so that Red Sox fans
can join in the marathon fun after the match.

Tortoise and hare ... commemorates
100th anniversary of Boston Marathon

Even the church was roped in for prayers

"... but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:28

On the way to our favourite tiny Japanese noodle house, we passed by an interesting shop.

"Madam! Coffee, tea or me?"

and this is the key to my heart. LOL

Flower Power

Winter is finally is over and the weather has been pretty nice for the past few weeks. We can finally take off one or two layers when we go out and I don't look like a ba(4) zhang(3) anymore.  Flowers are starting to bloom and the gardens and streets look real pretty.  It is a nice climate for flowers like tulips and hydrangeas.  So last Friday after tuition, I bought a pot of deep pink hydrangeas. So pretty!!! Although I ended developing rashes on my palms, it didn't stop me from watering my hydrangea everyday. =) My next few pots should be purple tulips and maybe daisies.

The keyboard I bought so that I can practise daily

Heard of Autumn Leaves?
I like late Eva Cassidy's non-jazz cover version

and Keith Jarrett for his jazz instrumental version

Autumn Leaves
The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold....
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands, I used to hold
Since you went away, the days grow long
And soon I'll hear ol' winter's song.
But I miss you most of all my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.

Since you went away, the days grow long
And soon I'll hear ol' winter's song.
But I miss you most of all my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.

Yesterday, we had an appointment with Daniel's colleague. Lionel and Rachel were in Boston after spending some time touring Canada and New York. Before we met up, we walked pass Fenway Park since there was a game. We were soon lost in the sea of red and white...

The demand for baseball games is always very high so naturally people would buy in bulk and sell the tickets on the day itself outside the stadium. To the Caucasians, as long as you are not blonde or brunette, you are Koreans or Japanese. Sure enough, we walked past one guy and he greeted, "Konichiwah!" We smiled politely and walked off. We had that when we were in Switzerland for our honeymoon during the World Cup season. People saw and went, "Go Japan! Go!" Hmm, I wonder when will they say, "Go, Singapore!" ?

Eventually we managed to squeeze out of the crowd and got to Chinatown to meet Lionel and Rachel. They are a really friendly couple. We chat and makan like we have known one another for a long time! And instead of us recommending, they as tourists, recommended a Chinese eatery and true enough, the food was really not bad. Yummy....

This may seem nothing to u, but it was absolutely wonderful for us!

Dan doesn't take pork but he didn't stop us from ordering...

Gui Fei Chicken... tender but a little too salty for me

We couldn't finish the food so we dao bao home. And when we were about to leave, we realized that one of the workers worked in Singapore before. It was such a nice feeling meeting someone who is familiar with our home country. =) And of course, the blessing we've got from having Rachel and Lionel with us.

Rachel and Lionel surprised us with this!

and Laksa!!!!!!!!!!!

We are so touched by their gestures. I mean, they actually bought these before they fly over. Oh... so sweet of them. Our only problem is, where to find the kway teow? But I guess it is a good problem! =)
